Strike Gold!

I had the opportunity to reconnect with one of my classmates from high school recently over coffee. Growing up Lola Troy had a beautiful voice and since college occasionally sung background for artists like Vesta Williams, etc. I decided to see what Lola has been up to lately and wanted to share her story with those interested in pursuing their own business…

Q:What were you doing prior to starting your Organo Gold business?

Lola: I have been in the mortgage industry for the past 10 years. I was a Processor for three. I then was promoted to Loan Officer for the next three years. For the past four years, I have been a Team Lead at a company that handles loan modifications, short sales, REO listings, etc.

Q: How did you get started?

Lola: I started my own network marketing business in June of 2011. I learned about this business from an associate of mine. She and I have the same hairdresser and she introduced this lifetime opportunity to me! I will forever be grateful!

Q: Is this a full-time or part-time venture?

Lola: For the past three months, it has been part-time. However at the beginning of 2012, I will be doing this business on a full-time basis!

Q: Out of all of the other MLMs, what made you choose this one?

Lola: Never in the history of network marketing has a traded commodity been sold. Then we have an exclusive ingredient in our coffee which is 100% Certified Ganoderma Lucidum. We have the patent on this herb. If I was to do network marketing, what I would sell had to make sense to me. Coffee makes sense because it is something that 75% of Americans drink. It is the 2nd most drank beverage in the world next to water and it is the 2nd most traded commodity next to oil. It just made sense to me.

Q: How has having your own home-based business impacted your life?

Lola: This opportunity has impacted my life in several ways. Initially when I got into this business, my goal was to make an extra $500 a month, but I have surpassed that goal by earning an extra $2000 a month and that income is growing each month! But it is much bigger than just the income. I have made so many connections with focused, driven, morally sound people. That is encouraging in this economy. My goal is to help others reach their goals of setting wealth principles in their daily lives. My goal is to help people become financially free and in the process be free as well. It is happening each day that I expose this business and that excites me and we are all doing it healthy!!

Q: For those interested in this business or purchasing your products, how can they reach you or what is your website where they can make purchases or sign up?

Lola: My company is Great Joe By Lo, LLC
Website: www.greatjoebylo.organogold.com
Phone :1-800-596-2032 or 678-278-9306
Email: greatjoebylo@gmail.com

Thank you so much Lola for sharing with us! We look forward to attending one of your mixers and we wish you much success with Organo Gold!!!

Customer Service at Home

I know it seems like there is no end to this economic downturn, but remain positive because there are several things you may be able to do from home.

Back when I was a Loan Officer, I worked part-time for a little while for a company as a Customer Service Representative. I didn’t want to deal with the public once finished working 8 to 10 hrs so I wanted something I could do from home. I began my search for something I could do from home. I found a position working as a Customer Service Representative at a company called Liveops.

I did pretty well there, but I was not fond of being on the phone. I was able to create my own schedule and worked about 20 hours a week. I received incoming calls for some of the infomercials you see on television. It wasn’t for me though because when I first started in the mortgage industry I was on the phone 90% of the time creating leads. I spent so much time on the phone doing cold calls that I didn’t want to have to be on the phones for a part-time job as well.

However, for those of you who like being Customer Service Representatives taking calls or have experience working in a call center environment, you will love this! For one, you will love the flexibility and I think if you don’t have distractions at home then you will definitely love working from home.

Hair Care

I started my natural hair journey back in 2009 as part of my decision to eliminate as many man-made products and chemicals as possible.

I use the following products as part of my hair care regimen:

  • Shea Moisture Organic African Black Soap Shampoo Deep Cleansing Shampoo
  • Shea Moisture Organic African Black Soap Balancing Conditioner
  • Kinky-Curly Knot Today Leave In Detangler
  • My own shea butter whip

I created a rosemary moisture spray to use daily and I used to use the Jamaican Black castor oil. However, the castor oil would cause my head to itch and it was too heavy for my hair. Therefore, I decided to switch to the Jamaican Coconut Black Castor Oil and my hair loves it. It helps my hair remain soft to the touch and moisturized and is just the right weight for my hair. The brand I use is Tropic Isle Living.

I love this stuff!

When I want to do a deep conditioning treatment, I start with an oil treatment using the Strong Roots Red Pimento Hair Growth Oil prior to washing my hair. The first time I used this product, I made the mistake of using it the same way I use the other oil. What a mistake that was! The next day my head was itching like crazy. Then I read the instructions and realized I was supposed to only leave it in for a few minutes prior to shampooing (I know, I should not have assumed). Needless to say, I rinsed it out and washed my hair and my scalp was immediately revived. This product definitely gets the blood circulating. But whatever you do, do not use it as a leave-in.

Shea Moisture and Kinky Curly products can be found in Target. However, if you are looking to purchase the Tropical Isle Living products, those can be purchased at www.sams247.com.

For those interested in making their own Rosemary moisture spray, I will share this recipe in my next post so stay tuned. Tropical Isle Living also has several other products. I do want to try the Lavender Jamaican Black Castor Oil as well. I will probably try it once I am out and need more product. Lavender has such a pleasant scent.

Cleanup Woman

Growing up my Mom kept such a clean home. There were never dishes left in the sink and the kitchen and bathrooms were spotless! The trait was passed down to me and my sisters. I get quite irritated when the kitchen is not up to standard or the trash cans are full (especially in the bathrooms), etc.

So you can imagine how distraught I was when the vacuum cleaner “checked out” on me. I had to go weeks without one as I searched the web for one of quality at a reasonable price. I didn’t even want to walk barefooted in the house!

Well, my Shark Navigator arrived yesterday afternoon so I was overwhelmed with excitement! So guess what I spent the day doing today? That’s right, vacuuming!!!

I was so impressed with the performance of Shark! It was light-weight and the suction was GREAT! It literally glided forward mostly on its own after I changed it to Level II. I never thought a house chore could be so enjoyable! I vacuumed my furniture and some of the curtains as well.

There is no bag to empty for this vacuum cleaner! I can detach the dust cup, hold it over the trash can, and push the release button. The bottom opens discarding the trash and dust. Once I am finished discarding everything I can snap it back in place onto the vacuum body.

If you are in need of a new vacuum cleaner, be sure to check out the Shark Navigator! I purchased mine from JCP (JC Penny) because I had a discount code for 20% off.

They Can’t Handle It!

Have you ever engaged in a conversation with people after they have asked you a question and they give the strangest looks? Maybe they have asked, “So what have you been up to?” or “How are you doing?” As you begin to share your response they start looking at each other? I think at some point in time we have all experienced this. Some may even start to text (I know, how rude!).

The condition is called, “too much information.” This happens when you are sharing some of the good and/or bad things going on in your life with people who are just asking a question to strike a conversation. The strange look can be because they are either really not concerned with how you are doing or just want something to gossip about. The other reason for such a strange look is you are providing so much information that their brains “can’t handle it.”

I think the best way to avoid this situation is to provide a generic response. If they really want to know they will continue to ask questions. When this happens, only share one conversation piece. Whatever, you do, do NOT share more than two things you have going on and minimize the time you spend talking about those one or two things.

Why? Because sometimes people can deject negativity onto you. You may be excited about that new seminar you attended or the new business you started, but the discouraging words may be a joy killer. Remember, less stress in any shape, form or fashion is another step to a joyful and peaceful life!

I have often wondered what life would be like without cable. Well today I took the first step and cancelled my digital cable, but I didn’t stop there! I dropped my home phone service as well. I know it may sound crazy, but parting was a big step. Not that I watched all of the channels I had access to, but it was just the satisfaction in knowing I had access should I decide to watch those channels. It was also nice to have PayPerView and On Demand for entertainment purposes.

Prior to taking such a big step, I did my research and here are the things I did to prepare for the “downgrade.”

  • I purchased two stream players, one for my great room and one for my bedroom.
  • After receiving and connecting them, I signed up for Netflix ($7.99/mo).
  • A few months later I signed up for Huluplus ($7.99/mo).

I practiced, and yes I do mean practiced watching TV using my streamer. I have other channels that were free in addition to Netflix and Huluplus. I downgraded a couple of weeks ago and finally turned in my digital cable box today because yesterday was the last day of my billing cycle. I am officially free of a cable bill!!!

It is just like watching regular TV without alot of commercials. I have plenty of movies to watch in addition to some of my favorite TV shows and I even have a free movie channel! There are also other channels to subcribe to including sports channels.

If you are interested in ways to save money also, check out www.roku.com and www.hulu.com. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I do!

Just Say No

I am sure there are many of you who try to be supportive of others and their ventures. I like supporting others when I can because it is such a great feeling to see their face light up when they see how much others care. Everyone wants support after all to some degree. However, it doesn’t mean that they will be just as supportive of you and your ventures. Of course I learned that by experience. It was a painful lesson, but I am grateful nonetheless.

I know by now you are probably asking, “what does that have to do with simplifying life?” Well part of the simplifying process is eliminating stress whenever possible. Stress can be defined as “to suffer annoyance or irritation” OR “importance or significance attached to a thing” according to the dictionary. If support from loved ones (family, friends, etc) is something that is important to you, then not receiving it can cause stress and disappointment.

If this describes you or if you think that this could apply to you, then I would like to share a couple of options of reducing or eliminating this stressful situation.

  • Assume that the people you want to be supportive of will not be supportive of you in the future. Therefore, when you do pursue your own ventures and they are not supportive, there is no tension or stress because you already knew what to expect.
  • Ask them if they will be just as supportive of you when you need them or if this is an “all about me” relationship? You can determine at that time what role you will play in their ventures.
  • Last, but not least, just say “NO.”

I guess you are wondering which option I chose to apply. Well, I didn’t choose just one. I decided the option I applied would be dependent upon the situation. The bottom line is no two people are alike so you have to take this into consideration when trying to be supportive of others. If you think it is gonna create “stress” when others aren’t as supportive of you, then you need to review your options and choose the one that would be best for you.
